SailGP+ members have put their faith in New Zealand to win this weekend’s Emirates Great Britain Sail Grand Prix, with 25.5% of fans backing Peter Burling’s crew to take the top spot as the league returns to British waters for the first time since Season 3.

Bookmakers agree that the Kiwis are the ones to beat, pricing them as 3.7 (27%, 27/10) favourites to win the Final – just ahead of their nearest rivals. After a strong showing in New York, where they finished second, and a win earlier this season in Dubai, New Zealand are seen as mounting a serious charge as Season 5 passes its halfway point.
However, the odds also reflect a more open contest than the fan vote might suggest. The BONDS Flying Roos (Australia) are close behind at 4.35 (7/2), while France (6.06, 5/1) and current season leaders Spain (6.45, 11/2) are also firmly in the mix. Surprisingly, Spain – who sit atop the season leaderboard, received just 5.8% of the fan vote.
Emirates GBR, led by Dylan Fletcher, will be hoping home support pays off. Fans placed them second with 19.6% of the vote, but bookmakers are more sceptical, offering odds of 10.0 (9/1) – making them the sixth favourite overall.

Canada round out the top five in both markets, priced at 9.52 (17/2) and earning 11.7% of the fan vote.
Portsmouth is a new venue for SailGP, and few teams will have prior experience racing here – meaning the unfamiliar waters could level the playing field.
The weekend format includes up to seven fleet races, before the top three teams advance to the all-important, winner-takes-all Event Final.
Whether fans or bookmakers have read the field correctly will be revealed when racing begins this Saturday.
