The BONDS Flying Roos SailGP Team is justifying its pre-Event favoritism so far by leading the Rolex Switzerland Sail Grand Prix in Geneva after Saturday’s three races. Here’s an update on their odds to win the Event in Switzerland, plus the latest prices on the other teams, and a look at who can triumph in tomorrow’s opening race.
BONDS Flying Roos Ahead And Favorites But There’s Plenty of Racing Still to Come
A fourth place, a win, and a third-place spot, in that chronological order, put them on 25 points after Saturday’s fascinating day of racing, two clear of the Emirates Great Britain SailGP Team and seven ahead of the surprise package of the Event so far; the Switzerland SailGP Team.
A reminder that the BONDS Flying Roos went into the Geneva Event as 4.0 favorites. But leading at the halfway mark and going on to win the Event are two very different things. So the Sportsbooks have taken note of their impressive start but are still offering odds of 3.33 on them, just a slight cut on their price before Saturday’s racing got underway.
The second favorite to win the Event in Geneva is now Emirates GBR at 3.7, while the bookies know too much about just how dangerous the Black Foils SailGP Team can be, on any given day, to dismiss their chances. Despite having some catching up to do to make Sunday’s Final, they’re still only 6.45 to win the whole Event.
The Swiss were available at odds of 28.57 to win their home Event, but an impressive performance on Saturday has reduced their odds to 10.53.
Usual Trio Are Favored to Make the Event’s Top Three
Looking at the latest odds to make Sunday’s Final, the Australians are 1.18, Emirates GBR is 1.32, and the Black Foils are 2.41.
Then it’s the NorthStar SailGP Team at 3.39, and the Swiss at 4.44.
Despite winning Race 3 on Saturday, the France SailGP Team didn’t do enough in the other two races to be considered strong contenders to make Sunday’s showdown, as odds of 4.76 suggest.
Who’s Going To Take Tomorrow’s Opening Race?
The best way to ensure you’re in that final race of the Geneva Event is to win Race 4 on Sunday.
It’s the Australians who lead the betting to do that at odds of 3.57, with Emirates GBR 3.85 and the Kiwis 5.13.
But we all know how unpredictable the Rolex SailGP Championship can be, especially when the fleet is racing in fresh waters, something they’re not particularly accustomed to, and where the space between the boats is tight. That makes overtaking difficult and the potential for penalties high.
It’s worth remembering that Les Bleus won Race 3 on Saturday as big outsiders, so it really could be anyone’s race.
With that in mind, consider the big odds on the likes of Los Gallos (9.52), the Canadians (12.5), and ROCKWOOL Racing (12.5). The French, meanwhile, are 11.76 to win their second race of the weekend.
