There are plenty of betting markets to get stuck into ahead of the ROCKWOOL France Sail Grand Prix, including: the overall winner of the event, whether a named team will make the final and several hand-picked head-to-head markets where you’re wagering on which of the two featured teams will finish better over the course of the event.
But right now, let’s just look at the latest odds to win Fleet Race 1 and Fleet Race 2, which will both take place on Friday.
Are Emirates GBR and Les Bleus the Best Value Bets?
First things first, the latest odds on each of the 12 teams are the same for both Race 1 and Race 2.
That said, expect those odds on Race 2 to change after we know what happened in Race 1.
The BONDS Flying Roos are favorites at 3.33 for both Race 1 and 2, with the Black Foils available at 4.55 and Emirates GBR next in the betting at 4.88. Les Bleus, which won the Germany Sail Grand Prix in Sassnitz last time out, look a big price at 8.7 for both races.
But if last year’s event here in Saint-Tropez is anything to go by, then your money could be well invested if you side with Emirates GBR, last year’s winners here. Though, it’s important to point out that that victory was with Ben Aislie on the day as their driver and they’ve now moved on to Dylan Fletcher.
And save a thought for Los Gallos, who finished a very credible third last year and are available at generous odds of 10.53 for both races.
Speed Record On the Line and Conditions Key as Ever
Back in 2023, Saint-Tropez was the venue for France setting the 99.94km/h speed record, which has since been beaten by the ROCKWOOL Racing SailGP Team, doing so in Germany last month when they reached a massive 103.93km/h.
So the potential for another attempt at that speed record is there, but that depends largely on whether the conditions will play ball.
At the time of writing, the forecast is for a strong mistral breeze which could push the F50s to their absolute limits. To say things could get pretty windy out there is an understatement.
These are choppy waters here in Saint-Tropez at the best of times, so if those strong winds come into play, it will be a grueling test of speed, stamina, bravery and skill. But then again, the Rolex SailGP Championship wouldn’t want to have it any other way.
