Spain Sail Grand Prix 2026 Betting: Why Los Gallos and Artemis are this week’s best bets
The ROCKWOOL Germany Sail Grand Prix is behind us and next up is the Spain Sail Grand Prix here in Valencia. As usual, let’s talk you through the favorites in the betting to win the event and highlight a good couple of wagers before we get under way.
Bonds Flying Roos the same odds as last time
In the aftermath of the ROCKWOOL Germany Sail Grand Prix a couple of weeks ago, we pointed out that the change in format from fleet races to group races added an extra layer of unpredictability and that when the Bonds Flying Roos SailGP Team won in Germany, it was at the biggest odds they had been all season pre-event to do so: 6.25.
The good news for any would-be back Bonds Flying Roos backers is that you can get those same odds of 6.25 again ahead of the Spain Sail Grand Prix and that’s a price to get excited about for plenty of reasons.
The first is that they’ve won five of the nine races so far at this year’s Rolex SailGP Championship. At the most basic level that means they’ve won 55% of the events this season, which translates to odds of 1.82, yet as you know you’re getting a price of 6.25, several times bigger than that.
The second is that after missing out on a Top 3 finish in the two previous events before Sassnitz – a rarity for them this season – they came storming back in Germany and won in style, so they look to be back to their best.
Are Los Gallos in the easier group?
At a very slightly bigger price of 6.67 you can back the other team who has been in fine form over the last couple of months. Los Gallos SailGP Team won both the Canada Sail Grand Prix in late June and the Emirates Great Britain Sail Grand Prix in late July and followed that up with a runner-up spot in Germany a couple of weeks ago; so no–one has taken more points from the last three Grands Prix than them.
And if that doesn’t convince you that they’re a great price themselves, then maybe this will.
The groups for this weekend are determined by how the teams finished last time out using the ABBA system where first and fourth end up in the same group (Group A), while second and third are in Group B, and so on.
Results from Germany mean that Los Gallos have avoided being in the same group as the Bonds Flying Roos, the Black Foils SailGP Team (7.41 to win this weekend), the Emirates Great Britain SailGP Team (11.11) and the Artemis SailGP Team at 13.33.
Considering that the Bonds Flying Roos are top of the standings, Artemis are third, Emirates GBR are the defending SailGP champions and the Black Foils (7.41) are always a force to be reckoned with and it’s easy to argue that the Spaniards ended up in the slightly easier group of the two, increasing their chances of at least making the four-boat Final. After that, we’ll see.
Los Gallos are the only team who are odds-on to make the Final at 1.95, alongside Tom Slingsby’s crew who are 1.75.
The Aussies’ Group A rivals the Black Foils are 2.18 and Emirates GBR, despite a really poor run of form, are next best at 3.59.
Don’t forget about Artemis
As ever, a word on Artemis, who are 3.86 to make Sunday’s Final.
They missed out on the Final last time by just one point but made the Final and finished second in the two before that so they’re no strangers to contesting the big one. At the very least you’d think they’d be shorter than Emirates GBR so you have to say they look like the best-value bet on the To Make the Final market.
