The scoring criteria explained

Baseline sustainable operation targets

At each event, our teams will be scored across a number of environmental and social sustainability categories to ensure they are operating sustainably. These include setting thresholds for energy and fuel use, keeping their onsite team to a minimum, activities with our Inspire youth program, as well as separating their waste correctly.

Focus area projects

The teams will then focus on bigger projects and campaigns which help to solve some of SailGP’s sustainability challenges and inspire our fans to do more to fight climate change. These include waste reduction; diversity, equity and inclusion; carbon footprint reduction and gender equity through the women's pathway. They will be scored by a panel of experts and overseen by an independent adjudicator.

Team standings

Team progress throughout the season is tracked with leaderboards for each event, as well as the four bigger focus areas. The cumulative scores are shown on an overall leaderboard that reflects the season standings.

10 Scoring Criteria

The 10 criteria which our teams are scored against align with SailGP’s goal to be the most purpose-driven sports and entertainment platform, and our targets to transition to clean energy, reduce our carbon footprint and drive inclusivity in sailing.

    What you can do

Make a plan! There are so many things you can do to make your life more sustainable, and it’s good to identify what you’d like to achieve and set yourself some goals on how to get there. You probably won’t be able to change everything at once, so how about setting yourself a target to do one thing differently each week. Think about changes you can make immediately, and changes that may need a longer term view.

Accelerate SailGP’s ambition to make our sport more inclusive

In line with the SailGP Women’s Pathway, teams are driving gender equity by increasing opportunities for female athletes - closing the gender experience gap that exists due to historical and societal norms. Teams support the SailGP Inspire program as they engage with young people at events by hosting local interns and educating wider groups through tours of their base. Teams deliver various projects that promote inclusivity, such as education programs for their team members, creating opportunities for young people to engage with the sport through training camps and delivering activations that drive awareness on key topics.

    What you can do

Think about how you can be more inclusive! Listening is vital to understand and respect other people in all interactions and to learn about your own biases that may lead to quick judgements or assessments. It’s really important to examine your own biases and what you can do to overcome these. In addition, education is key! You could read books, articles and blogs to learn about different cultures, races, religions, genders, etc, or perhaps listen to podcasts, interviews, and to the voices of people who share different views than you.
