CALCULATINGTHE IMPACT
How do we score the teams’ impact?
The Impact League scores SailGP teams against 10 environmental and social sustainability categories. For Season 4, the Impact League has been supercharged to reward teams for bigger, bolder impact. Teams will be scored against baseline sustainable operation targets at each event, and against four standout projects across the season offering solutions to key areas aligned to SailGP’s purpose strategy. The team which wins the most points at the end of the season will be crowned Impact League winners, winning prize money for their Purpose Partner to drive more impact.

The scoring criteria explained
Baseline sustainable operation targets
At each event, our teams will be scored across a number of environmental and social sustainability categories to ensure they are operating sustainably. These include setting thresholds for energy and fuel use, keeping their onsite team to a minimum, activities with our Inspire youth program, as well as separating their waste correctly.
Focus area projects
The teams will then focus on bigger projects and campaigns which help to solve some of SailGP’s sustainability challenges and inspire our fans to do more to fight climate change. These include waste reduction; diversity, equity and inclusion; carbon footprint reduction and gender equity through the women's pathway. They will be scored by a panel of experts and overseen by an independent adjudicator.
Team standings
Team progress throughout the season is tracked with leaderboards for each event, as well as the four bigger focus areas. The cumulative scores are shown on an overall leaderboard that reflects the season standings.
10 Scoring Criteria
The 10 criteria which our teams are scored against align with SailGP’s goal to be the most purpose-driven sports and entertainment platform, and our targets to transition to clean energy, reduce our carbon footprint and drive inclusivity in sailing.

What you can do
Make a plan! There are so many things you can do to make your life more sustainable, and it’s good to identify what you’d like to achieve and set yourself some goals on how to get there. You probably won’t be able to change everything at once, so how about setting yourself a target to do one thing differently each week. Think about changes you can make immediately, and changes that may need a longer term view.

Reduce the team's footprint by reducing emissions from fuels on and off the water
Teams work to reduce their on-site footprint through conserving energy consumption in their team bases and minimizing their fuel consumption on the water. They also look at ways to incorporate clean energy solutions into their operations across the board.
Category criteria
What you can do
Go clean! Move to a clean energy tariff, or look at options for solar panels or a ground or air-source heat pump to power your home. Think of ways that you can reduce your energy and fuel consumption - turning down your thermostat, putting on an extra jumper instead of using heating, and using public transport or active travel where possible.

Reduce the impact of team’s supply chain and merchandise by choosing the right suppliers
Teams work with their merchandise providers and other suppliers to unlock net-zero supply chains, and encourage sustainable practices including better production methods and cleaner distribution.

What you can do
Think about where you spend your money and educate yourself on how sustainable your favorite brands are. Think about how an item has been made, whether you actually need it, or whether you could buy it second hand. When you no longer need something, consider whether someone else might want it and how you can donate, sell or upcycle it.

Reduce the impact of travel
Teams try to reduce their travel footprint through minimizing team numbers on site through considering remote working options as well as dual roles. They also make sustainable transport choices where this is possible.
Category criteria
What you can do
Think about the footprint of your travel. Do you need to fly or could you take the train? Perhaps you could consider going somewhere closer to home. Think about options to car share or go electric, using public transport where possible. Get active - don’t take a taxi - but walk, run or cycle!

What you can do
Think about where your food is coming from and choose locally grown, seasonal produce or try growing your own. Accelerate SailGP’s ambition to make our sport more inclusive
In line with the SailGP Women’s Pathway, teams are driving gender equity by increasing opportunities for female athletes - closing the gender experience gap that exists due to historical and societal norms. Teams support the SailGP Inspire program as they engage with young people at events by hosting local interns and educating wider groups through tours of their base. Teams deliver various projects that promote inclusivity, such as education programs for their team members, creating opportunities for young people to engage with the sport through training camps and delivering activations that drive awareness on key topics.
Category criteria
What you can do
Think about how you can be more inclusive! Listening is vital to understand and respect other people in all interactions and to learn about your own biases that may lead to quick judgements or assessments. It’s really important to examine your own biases and what you can do to overcome these. In addition, education is key! You could read books, articles and blogs to learn about different cultures, races, religions, genders, etc, or perhaps listen to podcasts, interviews, and to the voices of people who share different views than you.
