Taking place across 2021-22, SailGP Season 2 was won by Australia who successfully defended their Championship crown. The Aussies won five of the eight events in Season 2, before defeating Japan and the United States in the winner-takes-all Grand Final at the Championship-decider in San Francisco. The biggest SailGP fleet to date raced at events on three continents throughout Season 2, with Tom Slingsby and his Aussie crew fully deserving of their Championship glory.
Launched in October 2018, SailGP experienced a wildly successful five-race, six-team Season 1 throughout 2019. The season was highlighted by a global event audience of 1.8 billion and attracted more than 133,000 spectators to see the world’s fastest sail racing. Ultimately won by Tom Slingsby’s Australia in a fierce season-long battle with Nathan Outteridge's Japan, it's fair to say the inaugural season of SailGP was a resounding success.
