This past week, the Great Britain SailGP Team held a “Best of Season 2 Moments” to honour the great racing, leadership and climate action that took place during Season 2.

The VOTES are in…..and the winners are:

WOW Moment of the Season
The winning WOW Moment of the Season happened at the Season 2 Finale in San Francisco this past March. On Race Day 2, the GBR made a close cross in front of FRA and NZL, making for some nail-biting racing. Luckily, all boats came out unharmed and the racing continued.

Purpose of the Season
Over the course of Season 2, there have been many notable purpose-driven events, through the Impact League, as well as with our #RaceForTheFuture partner, STEM Crew. While we are proud of our all of our purpose engagements this past season: STEM Crew Maritime Roadshows, Seagrass Initiative in Bermuda and the Plastic Cable Re-tie Replacements, the Protect Our Future Launch had the highest number of votes . This echo’s the importance of the climate action that we as individuals must take, but that organisations, and sports team can help lead and inspire others to do the same.

Event of the Season
The Great Britain Sail Grand Prix took home first place for the event of the season. It is clear that our home supporters love to see us on home waters. Plymouth was a great venue, with incredible sunshine and racing for the fans watching on the water and from the Hoe. It was an added bonus that we had a home race win!

GBR Performance of The Season
The event win in Bermuda was voted the favourite performance of the season. It is always great to see the Great Britain take home an event win, especially as a kickoff to Season 2! It was also in Bermuda that Hannah Mills helped participate in a local Seagrass Initiative. Maybe it was the giving back to our local oceans that helped us take the win on Day 2 of racing!

Best Slip-Up of the Season
Sometimes when racing on the edge, the sailors find the edge. Neil Hunter, Rich Mason and Matt Gotrel had a few close calls while racing in Season 2. However, Neil Hunter’s near fall in San Francisco’s Season finale was voted the fan favourite moment of the season. If you haven’t seen the save, be sure to head to @sailgpgbr on Instagram, Facebook or Twitter to see the impressive recovery yourself.

The Great Britain SailGP Team is proud to be paving the way for sports-led climate action. Under the new Protect Our Future initiative, Season 3 should continue to bring great racing and opportunity to give back to the planet!
