2022 marked the biggest year for SailGP yet - with Season 2’s championship-deciding Grand Final crowning two-time defending champions Australia in San Francisco before Season 3 got underway in Bermuda in May.

Two new teams joined the league and SailGP visited new venues for the first time. The majority of Season 3 is now behind us - with seven of the 11 events completed, but SailGP fans can rest easy - there’s even more coming up in 2023 as the league’s ambitious season-on-season expansion continues.

SailGP visits Singapore and New Zealand for the first time

The eighth event of Season 3 will mark a first for SailGP as the league visits Asia for the first time. The iconic city-state with host the Singapore Sail Grand Prix on January 14-15, with the league’s nine flying F50s doing battle at the picturesque location of Park Green.

Following Singapore, the league will once again visit Sydney for the KPMG Australia Sail Grand Prix before heading onto Christchurch for its highly anticipated inaugural event in New Zealand. Already sold out, the ITM New Zealand Sail Grand Prix marks the first of four sailing events scheduled to take place from 2023 - 2026 and comes after the first New Zealand Sail Grand Prix scheduled for January 2022 was cancelled due to COVID-19.

The Season 3 Grand Final

Following New Zealand, the league will return to San Francisco for the championship-deciding, winner-takes-all Grand Final on May 6 - 8. The event will follow 12 months of action-packed, intense racing and decide the overall championship winner.

SailGP’s first ever Fan-Owned Team

A key announcement in 2022, the launch of the first Fan-Owned racing team to join SailGP ignited keen interest among SailGP’s fans.

The team, which will use a DAO structure and be built on the NEAR Protocol, will represent the territories of Bermuda and the Caribbean and is aiming to be on the start line when Season 4 kicks off in Chicago in June. An increased fleet of 10 boats is sure to cause congestion on the racecourse, resulting in fiercer competition and even more drama than Season 3.

Following May’s Season 3 Grand Final in San Francisco, SailGP fans will only have to wait six weeks before the biggest season yet kicks off in June.
