The Switzerland SailGP Team has claimed its first ever victory in the Impact League, securing top spot for the ROCKWOOL Denmark Sail Grand Prix | Copenhagen by just a single point.

The Swiss team, who began its Impact League journey with back-to-back last-place finishes in the opening two events of Season 3, has since enjoyed a rapid improvement and the 139 points secured in Copenhagen placed them at the top of a very tight leaderboard ahead of New Zealand on 138 points and Great Britain on 137.

Unfortunately, despite their win, Switzerland remain bottom of the Season 3 Impact League rankings, although they’ve closed the gap on the eighth-placed United States – who finished last in Copenhagen – to 19 points.

Copenhagen Impact League runners-up New Zealand – who won the on-water event in the Danish capital – are enjoying opposing fortunes to the last-place Swiss, as Peter Burling’s team top the season rankings after four events.

The Kiwis’ second-place finish in Copenhagen extended their lead at the top of the table to 14 points, moving clear of Denmark in second and Great Britain in third. The Danes finished a disappointing sixth at their home event, and will be grateful Ben Ainslie’s team did not overtake them in the season rankings with a third-place finish.

The Brits did overtake Canada, however, who dropped out the top three by finishing second-last in Copenhagen, with Australia, France, the USA and Switzerland rounding out the season leaderboard heading into the September double-header in Saint-Tropez and Cadiz.
