SailGP fans have placed their votes for the Most Tactical and Most Improved teams, and the Best Driver of last weekend’s racing in Plymouth.

Peter Burling’s New Zealand team, which clinched its first ever place in a Final and stormed to victory over Denmark and Australia, topped the fan vote in two of three categories.

Burling himself was voted the Best Driver of the weekend, taking 49% of the vote. The Kiwis were also voted the Most Tactical team with 41% of the vote, after dominating fleet racing. The team picked up a 2-2-1-5-1 racing record and confidently secured its place in the Final.

Despite being first off the line, New Zealand slipped behind Nicolai Sehested’s Denmark on the sprint to mark one. However, Burling executed an aggressive match racing manoeuvre to sail 600m less than the Danish team on the third leg and overtook the Danes at a crucial moment of the race.

However, it was Denmark which took the vote for the Most Improved team after making the podium for the first time. Sehested’s team picked up an 8-5-2-2-2 fleet racing record and squeezed into the Final after a last minute penalty ruled out home favourites Great Britain.
