Can you race at high-speeds and perform freestyle tricks? SailGP Inspire is holding a wing foil exhibition-style racing format in Christchurch and you can apply to take part now!
The three-day event will take place on March 17-19 alongside the ITM New Zealand Sail Grand Prix and include an exhilarating racing format of high-speed slalom courses and freestyle exhibition.
Riders will perform explosive tricks and showcase the next generation of foiling in front of SailGP’s Race Village before the league’s nine F50s battle it out at the 10th event of the Season 3 Championship.
After racing, riders will have the chance to meet the athletes and undertake a behind-the-scenes tour of the Tech Site.
Armie Armstrong, the founder and director of Inspire program partner Armstrong Foils said: “What an exciting time to have SailGP's global tour come to our New Zealand home turf down in Ōtautahi, Christchurch. With all our foils, wings and boards inspired by and designed in New Zealand, it's full circle to have these ultimate foiling boats in local waters.”
Armstrong partnered with SailGP’s Inspire program to bring wing foiling to youth sailors around the world.
New Zealand SailGP Team strategist Jo Aleh added: “It's really exciting to see SailGP inspiring the next generation through wing foiling."
"Winging is one of the most accessible forms of foiling around. I've been doing it for a few years already and there's definitely crossover to all forms of foiling boats, so the perfect starter for some of the pretty amazing young foilers who come through the SailGP Inspire program!”
To take part, riders must be aged 21 or under and be highly skilled. Apply by February 10 HERE.
