Spain winning its first ever event in Los Angeles has been overwhelmingly highlighted by SailGP fans as their favorite moment from racing in LA.

Members of The Dock were quizzed on their standout moments from the event and agreed the young team’s first ever win was the key highlight.

Kim Stone specifically highlighted ‘the look on [Spain driver] Diego Botin’s face and the joy of his young Spanish team as they won their first event, beating Australia’. It wasn’t just the fact that Spain won its first event, but the fact they had to beat the Season 3 champions to do it.

A number of fans also highlighted how Spain scraped into the three-boat Final by just one-point, with Dominic Sadler noting the way ‘they made it to the Final by the skin of their teeth’.

However, there were plenty of other moments that caught the attention of fans, including Australia’s broken jib, which was a highlight for James Murtagh, and Australia sweeping seaweed from their foil, which was noted by Frauke Rottschy.

Jordan Atkins meanwhile pointed to the tricky conditions, which challenged crews on the second day of racing. “Seeing the wind drop off made everything a bit tense - it was great to see how the teams adapted.”
