The second consecutive win for Ben Ainslie’s Emirates GBR and comeback of Jimmy Spithill’s American team have been picked by SailGP fans as their favorite moments from Taranto.
Members of SailGP’s fan loyalty program The Dock were quizzed on their standout moments from racing in Italy and agreed that Emirates GBR’s second back-to-back win was a key highlight.
Mark Sleep highlighted the ‘look of pride and commitment on the Emirates GBR team when they won,’ while other fans pointed to the first day of racing in high winds, which saw gusts hit 45 km/h.
“The high speed first day was exciting to watch and, of course, Emirates GBR’s win,” said Steven Clark.
Lukas Starmayr also highlighted the first day of racing: “It’s fascinating to see how the teams work together to get everything out of the F50s”.
Elsewhere, fans pointed to the day two comeback of Jimmy Spithill’s United States following the injury of flight controller Hans Henken on day one.
The team picked up a third place finish and race win to scrape into the Final race against Australia and Emirates GBR.
“Watching Team USA win one for Hans,” was picked as a key highlight by Heather King. Matthew Tracy agreed - ‘watching USA bounce back from a rough day one to make it to the final race’.
