U.S. strategist Erika Reineke has been put under the spotlight in SailGP’s Get to Know series ahead of the Mubadala Season 3 Grand Final | San Francisco.

Reineke recalls her first job as a sailing instructor, chooses Lake Garda as her favorite sailing destination and says Saint-Tropez’s 40 km/h winds are her ideal F50 racing conditions.

Australian grinder Kinley Fowler gets a shout out as Reinecke’s sailing inspiration and reveals the Abercrombie and Fitch-inspired name of her first ever boat.

When asked what advice she would give to herself 10 years ago, Reineke replied: “The answers are always out there and just not getting frustrated when things aren’t going your way, there’s always a way to improve and there’s always answers.”

Reineke joined the league this season and raced with the United States team in Cádiz and Singapore, before unfortunately breaking her leg during practice ahead of the KPMG Australia Sail Grand Prix in Sydney.

Ahead of its home event in San Francisco next month, the United States currently sits in sixth overall. Australia has an 11-point lead at the top of the leaderboard, followed by New Zealand in second and France in third- with just a one-point lead ahead of Emirates Great Britain SailGP Team.

The F50 fleet will do battle across six fleet races before the top three teams proceed to the all-important winner-takes-all Grand Final, which will decide the ultimate winner of Season 3.
