Gavin Ball, winner of the male category of SailGP Inspire's Championship of Champions, has opened up about his journey to winning the WASZP Grand Final on San Francisco Bay.

Ball, who hails from the United States, was crowned best male alongside best female Stella Bilger, after going head to head against the winners from each qualifying event.

But Ball's WASZP journey began three years ago in Kaneohe Bay in Hawaii.

"Being from Hawaii, I was born into a place where the water is who you are. There's pictures of me in my dad's canoe when I was weeks old and I haven't been off the water since then," Ball explained.

After hearing about the Inspire program through a friend, Ball applied and 'absolutely smashed' the regional heat in Chicago. Since then, he kept training in preparation for San Francisco.

Having won the event, Ball will receive the incredible money-can’t-buy immersive experience of joining one of the SailGP Teams in Season 4 and riding on board an F50.
