Australia's Tom Slingsby has won the Rolex World Sailor of the Year award at the 2023 World Sailing Awards in celebration of his achievements over the last 12 months
SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA - 15 November 2023 - Australia SailGP team driver and CEO, Tom Slingsby has received global recognition at the 2023 World Sailing Awards, winning his third Rolex World Sailor of the Year award in the men’s category. Slingsby secured an impressive share of the male vote after a stellar year at SailGP which saw his Australia team secure the Championship Trophy for a record third time.
This year’s voting panel was made up of World Sailing Member National Authorities (MNAs), the international sailing community, fans and the public to decide a male and a female winner.
The annual award is recognised as the highest accolade a sailor can receive in recognition of their outstanding achievements in the global sport of sailing.
Australia driver and CEO, Tom Slingsby said: “I'm extremely humbled by this recognition and deeply appreciative of the support I've received throughout my career. This award is not only a huge personal achievement but a true testament to the incredible people who have played a significant role in my success over the years.
“Congratulations to Kristen Neuschafer on her well-deserved recognition as the female 2023 Rolex World Sailor of the Year. To be nominated alongside the calibre of sailors in this year’s lineup is an absolute honour. Thank you to the organisers, MNAs, sailing community and the fans for this recognition, as well as my Australia SailGP teammates for continuing to inspire me to reach new heights in our sport.”
This award win follows Slingsby’s recent success at the Australian Sailing Awards earlier this month, where he was inducted into the Australian Sailing Hall of Fame, while the Australia SailGP Team were awarded Team of the Year 2023 and Ben Durham was crowned Coach of the Year.
The Australia SailGP team is currently competing in Season 4 of the SailGP Championship, sitting top on the leaderboard. The team will next compete at the Emirates Dubai Sail Grand Prix on December 9-10, before returning to home waters for the KPMG Australia Sail Grand Prix I Sydney. Tickets are on sale now for the not to be missed event of the Australian summer at SailGP.com/Sydney.
