This year’s voting panel was made up of World Sailing Member National Authorities (MNAs), the international sailing community, fans and the public to decide a male and a female winner.

The annual award is recognised as the highest accolade a sailor can receive in recognition of their outstanding achievements in the global sport of sailing.

Australia driver and CEO, Tom Slingsby said: “I'm extremely humbled by this recognition and deeply appreciative of the support I've received throughout my career. This award is not only a huge personal achievement but a true testament to the incredible people who have played a significant role in my success over the years.

“Congratulations to Kristen Neuschafer on her well-deserved recognition as the female 2023 Rolex World Sailor of the Year. To be nominated alongside the calibre of sailors in this year’s lineup is an absolute honour. Thank you to the organisers, MNAs, sailing community and the fans for this recognition, as well as my Australia SailGP teammates for continuing to inspire me to reach new heights in our sport.”

This award win follows Slingsby’s recent success at the Australian Sailing Awards earlier this month, where he was inducted into the Australian Sailing Hall of Fame, while the Australia SailGP Team were awarded Team of the Year 2023 and Ben Durham was crowned Coach of the Year.

The Australia SailGP team is currently competing in Season 4 of the SailGP Championship, sitting top on the leaderboard.
