The top offenders and cleanest teams from Season 4 so far have been revealed, with Sebastien Schneiter’s Switzerland taking the title as the most penalized team.
So far, a total of 83 penalties have been dished out across the first six events of Season 4, including a total of 34 Part 2 (boat on boat penalties). Elsewhere, 17 early start OCS penalties have been dished out, as well as 32 boundary penalties, which punish teams for straying beyond the course limits.
The Swiss are currently the top offending team of the season so far, picking up a total of 16 penalties, followed by Canada and Germany, which have 12 apiece.
Key penalty moments from Season 4 so far include the moment Germany collided with Switzerland on the start line of LA’s 4th fleet race, earning them a four-point penalty and two season point deduction.
Elsewhere, Canada picked up a devastating 8 event point penalty and 4-point deduction from its season score after colliding with Spain in Saint-Tropez.
Then, in an incident labelled ‘payback for Saint-Tropez’ by SailGP’s commentators, Spain was docked 4 event points and 2 points from their overall season score for hitting a mark in Cadiz.
By contrast, Nicolai Sehested’s ROCKWOOL DEN is currently the lowest penalized team, picking up just three penalties so far this season.
When it came to calling for penalties however, the USA has so far been the most active on the protest button. The team has so far protested against other teams a total of 34 times - significantly higher than Canada in second place with 23 protests.
As well as being the least penalized team, ROCKWOOL DEN protested the least out of the 10-boat fleet, pressing the protest button just 7 times across the 6-events so far.
