As SailGP wraps up the racing action from Italy, SailGP reporter Lisa Darmanin goes for one final lap of the Taranto Tech Site to get the athletes’ take on the weekend.

Emirates GBR strategist Hannah Mills reflects on the team’s win over a ‘really tough weekend’ of extreme conditions and debriefed a confusing Final. “Half the time we didn’t know where the wind was coming from,” she says. “It was a funny way to win.”

However, she said it was satisfying to see the team perform well in light winds - an area where previously they have struggled.

Elsewhere, Australia strategist Nina Curtis said the Final, which was terminated in light winds, was a ‘disappointing finish’ to the event. However, she said the team was ‘proud’ of its Season 4 consistency - which has seem the team reach the Finals of all four events.

Meanwhile, United States driver Jimmy Spithill said the team’s comeback on Race Day 2 was inspired by injured flight controller Hans Henken. “He really fired the team up to go out there,” he said after racing.

The F50 fleet will next meet at the Spain Sail Grand Prix | Andalucía - Cádiz on October 14-15.
