The Canada SailGP Team has said it is ‘disappointed’ by the absence of a home event on the freshly revealed 2024/2025 Season calendar.

The 2024/2025 Season boasts 14 events taking place across five continents - making it SailGP’s most expansive yet, but will not repeat Season 4’s visit to Halifax, Canada.

The event, which took place in June 2024, sold out within 12 minutes of tickets going on sale and was attended by record shoreside crowds.

In a statement, the Canada SailGP Team said the news that SailGP would not return to the city next season was ‘disappointing for all of us’.

“Our first Canadian event was a stand out, record-breaking success with over 50,000 spectators in attendance.”

However, the team revealed it is ‘in discussions’ to bring a Canadian event back to the calendar in 2026.

“Sail Nova Scotia is already in discussions with SailGP to confirm an event in 2026 and we are optimistic we will be back in Canada in Season 6,” the statement said.

Julien di Biase, SailGP Chief Operating Officer, added: “SailGP continues to work with its partners in Halifax and is optimistic about a potential return to the city in the future. The incredible welcome the league and the teams received in Halifax was second to none, thanks to the efforts of Sail Nova Scotia and the funding partners - the Province of Nova Scotia and Halifax Regional Municipality.”
