SailGP fans have overwhelmingly backed Tom Slingsby to deliver a home victory on the waters of Sydney Harbour when the KPMG Australia Sail Grand Prix gets underway this weekend.
A total of 41% of fans backed the Aussies to pick up their first win of Season 4 in Sydney, followed by New Zealand with 20% of the vote and Phil Robertson’s Canada with 12%.
It comes as Australia remains on the hunt for its elusive first win of the season, while the Kiwis - currently second on the overall leaderboard - will be driven by Nathan Outteridge this weekend. The team’s permanent driver, Peter Burling, is back home expecting his first baby and will miss the event.

It comes after New Zealand won in Abu Dhabi, beating Diego Botin’s Spain and Taylor Canfield’s USA in the three-boat Final.
Elsewhere, a total of 8% of fans backed Canfield’s USA team to pick up its first victory as a new team in Sydney.
