SailGP has officially touched down in New York City ahead of racing this weekend, with preparations in full swing at the Tech Site.
The Team Bases, which host the league’s cutting edge F50s and athletes, have now been built and the F50s are being readied for crucial training time out on the water.
Five teams are heading out on the water for an extra day’s training on Thursday - the United States, Germany, ROCKWOOL DEN, Australia and Switzerland.
The full F50 fleet will then hit the water for official practice racing on Friday, while official racing will get underway at 4.30pm ET on Saturday and Sunday.
The teams will compete in a five fleet race format before the top three proceed into the winner-takes-all shootout.
With four event wins this season, New Zealand is currently top of the overall season leaderboard with 83 points - a commanding nine point lead ahead of Spain in second. Triple SailGP champions Australia meanwhile has dropped down to third place after a disappointing 8th place finish in Halifax.
Meanwhile France in 4th and ROCKWOOL DEN in 5th are just six and seven points respectively behind Australia, meaning both teams will be going all out to move up the leaderboard ahead of San Francisco’s season-defining Grand Final next month.
The Mubadala New York Sail Grand Prix takes place on June 22/23, with racing from 4.30pm ET.
