New Zealand driver Peter Burling has been crowned driver of the season in SailGP’s end of season, fan-voted awards.
The awards, which spanned 10 categories, saw fellow Kiwi Liv Mackay named strategist of the season, while Australian Jason Waterhouse picked up flight controller of the season.
Spain wing trimmer Florian Trittel won his category and Canada picked up the award for best grinding team of the season.
New Zealand came top again when it came to coach of the season, with Ray Davies picking up the title.
Fans also voted for the top moment of the season, choosing Australia dramatically colliding with a race mark in Christchurch. Halifax meanwhile, which sold out in 12 minutes, was named the best racecourse of the season, beating stiff competition from Christchurch, New Zealand.
Switzerland picked up Impact Moment of the Season for their women’s F50 training camp in Dubai and fans chose their SailGP Season 4 ‘dream team’.
Their fantasy crew line-up saw Peter Burling listed as driver, Emirates GBR’s Hannah Mills named strategist alongside Australia’s wing trimmer Kyle Langford and Canada’s flight controller Billy Gooderham. Spain’s Joan Cardona and Timothe Laupauw of France meanwhile were picked as the all-star grinding team.
The winners were revealed ahead of SailGP’s Season 4 Grand Final in San Francisco on July 13-14, where the top three ranked teams will battle it out for $2 million.
