Canada are in a 'very strong position' regarding a potential outside investor in the team which will see them guarantee their place on the starting line for the opening event of Season 5.
The Canadians remain owned by SailGP as they near the end of their second season in the league and, as with all league-owned teams, securing investment is vital to ensure their long-term viability.
There has been much talk about a potential takeover of Canada over the past few months, with driver Phil Robertson adressing the rumours on a number of occasions.
And, ahead of SailGP's inaugural Canadian event this weekend, Robertson was one again pressed on the subject.
“Its no secret our team is for sale," said Robertson. "We’ve got some really interested parties at the moment, and I'd say we’re in a pretty strong position.
"We've got an amazing team; the sailing side is going great, and the business side is good as well.
"But we have got work to do in the next few months to make sure we are on the starting line at the start of next season."
Robertson, a Kiwi, leads his team into their first ever home event this weekend. Halifax Harbour hosts two days of racing on Saturday and Sunday, and with only three events remaining of the season, there is so much on the line for each of the ten national teams who will be racing.
“We’re extremely pumped to be here in Canada," added Robertson. "And Halifax… what a harbour.
“It’s a long season and its coming to the pointy end now. But we’ve seen some real swings on the season leaderboard already, and anything can happen."
