SailGP has landed in Abu Dhabi for the first time and preparations are well underway for this weekend’s Mubadala Abu Dhabi Sail Grand Prix.
The Tech Bases of the 10 national teams have now been built and the F50 fleet is being fitted ahead of the first teams hitting the water for crucial training time on Thursday.
The F50 fleet will then meet for official practice racing on Friday before racing gets underway in earnest at 2pm GST January 13-14 to decide the event winner.
The two day spectacle will see the 10 teams battle it out on the iconic Mina Zayed across five fleet races before the top three scoring teams proceed to the winner-takes-all showdown on Sunday afternoon.
Three-time champions Australia will be gunning for their first Season 4 win, with driver Tom Slingsby rejoining the team after missing Dubai on paternity leave. Elsewhere, ROCKWOOL DEN driver Nicolai Sehested will miss Abu Dhabi for the birth of his second child, with former Japan driver Nathan Outteridge subbing in to drive the Danish F50.
New Emirates GBR driver Giles Scott will test his mettle against the F50 fleet for the first time in Abu Dhabi after taking over from Ben Ainslie. Meanwhile, time is running out for Quentin Delapierre’s France to make its mark on Season 4 - with Abu Dhabi marking the 7th event in the season’s 13-event calendar.
The Mubadala Abu Dhabi Sail Grand Prix presented by Abu Dhabi Sports Council will take place on January 13-14 and promises a host of not-to-be-missed moments for all the family and friends, including an exclusive performance from Take That, grand prix racing like you’ve never seen before, exclusive athlete meet and greets and the city’s best street food. There's still time to get your tickets, but don't delay! It won't be long before tickets sell out.
