Emirates GBR clocked the highest top speed of Season 4, while Quentin Delapierre’s France had the highest average speed across the season, data from the F50 fleet shows.
Giles Scott’s Emirates GBR recorded the highest maximum speed of 93.96 km/h during the Final of the ROCKWOOL CANADA Sail Grand Prix. The team went on to win the event, beating France and ROCKWOOL DEN in the three-boat, winner-takes-all Final. The event also marked Giles Scott’s maiden SailGP victory after taking over from former driver Ben Ainslie.
Phil Robertson’s Canada - which came 6th in the overall season standings, recorded the second highest speed - 93.58 km/h, while Tom Slingsby’s Australia was in third with 93.26 km/h. Season champions Spain ranked 6th in this metric with their highest top speed of 90.72 km/h.
At the bottom end of the the table, Switzerland recorded the lowest maximum speed of the fleet - 86.39 km/h. This means the highest speed recorded by Switzerland throughout the 13-event season was the lowest top speed of the fleet.
When it came to average boat speed throughout the 13-event season, France topped the metric with a speed of 65.5 km/h, followed by Canada’s 65.02 km/h and Australia’s 64.19 km/h.
Erik Heil’s Germany - new to the league in Season 4 - was the slowest boat on average with a speed of 59.12 km/h - sitting just below Switzerland’s 60.62 km/h and eventual champions Spain’s 61.79 km/h.
