A total prize pot of almost $7M was handed out across the 13 events of Season 4, culminating in the $2 million winner-takes-all Grand Final. But which teams took home the most?
SailGP’s performance-based prize money increased mid-way through Season 4, coinciding with the league’s Abu Dhabi event. Total event prize money was boosted from $300K to $400K to be distributed between the top three teams.
The winning team picks up $200K, second place is handed $120K, and third place receives $80K. Additionally, the winner of the season on points picks up a $350K bonus, while the winner of the three-boat Grand Final is handed $2 million.
Unsurprisingly Season Champions Spain topped the list, taking home a total of $2,530,000 across the season, combining its $2M payday with two event wins in Los Angeles and Bermuda and a second place finish in Abu Dhabi.
New Zealand, which dominated fleet Season 4 prior to the Grand Final, came second - picking up a total of $1,450,000 thanks to winning five events, podiuming in two more and winning the season overall on points - which earned the Kiwis a $350K bonus.
Tom Slingsby’s Australia meanwhile came third - receiving a total prize pot of $960,000 throughout the season after podiuming in 9 of the 13 events. Despite this, Season 4 marked the Aussies’ lowest bonus prize money in SailGP so far after their three-Championship winning streak was broken by the Spanish and New Zealand dominated event podiums throughout the season.
With three Season 4 event wins, Giles Scott’s Emirates GBR came fourth with a total prize pot of $660,000, followed by ROCKWOOL DEN’s $500K, Canada’s $320K, the United States’ $290K and France’s $240K.
Switzerland and Germany meanwhile, the only two teams which didn’t podium in Season 4, received no bonus prize money and will be setting their sights on achieving podium finishes in the 2024/25 Season.
