SailGP’s first ever visit to Switzerland in Season 5 is set to be an ‘impressive’ event, according to team driver Sebastien Schneiter.

Geneva-born Schneiter, who returns to the squad in Season 5, welcomed the news that the city will host the league’s first ever event in Switzerland on September 20/21, 2025 and said hosting a home event had been ‘a big team goal’ since its launch in Season 3.

Lake Geneva promises perfect F50 racing conditions, he said, with flat water and steady breeze. September promises ‘the best wind conditions of the year’, with ‘either a nice lake breeze or gradient wind coming off the city’, which could result in ‘shifty, entertaining conditions’ like those seen in Halifax.

Spectators attending the event meanwhile will have ‘a great view from the whole racing area’, with an ‘amazing backdrop of the city and the mountains’. “It’s very different from what we’ve had so far in SailGP’, Schneiter added.

Having grown up sailing on Lake Geneva, Schneiter expects his team to have an edge when racing gets underway. “Every event will be important for us next season, but if there’s one event where we want to win more than the others, it’s this one.”

Drawing on their past racing experience in the area, Schneiter said his team is ‘sure to have an advantage’.

“We know each corner of the lake really well, we know all the wind bands and effects you can get, so that’s definitely an advantage for us.”
