The dates for fans to get their hands on the hottest ticket of the summer have been revealed, with the ITM New Zealand Sail Grand Prix | Auckland set to go on sale at midday on Wednesday, 25 September. Unfolding over two action-packed days of racing January 18-19, 2025, the ITM New Zealand Sail Grand Prix | Auckland will mark SailGP’s long-awaited debut in New Zealand’s biggest city.
With the perfectly-positioned Waitematā Harbour racetrack just minutes from downtown Auckland, more than 10,000 fans are expected to join the choir of cheers, with viewing from Wynyard Point’s purpose-built Race Stadium, home to grandstand seating, private hospitality in SailGP’s bespoke Shoreline Villas, live entertainment and more.
A limited inventory of ‘bring-your-own-boat’ flags will also allow boat users to experience the most exciting racing on water - from the water - lining up close enough to feel the rush of SailGP’s high-tech, super-charged F50 catamarans flying past.
Tickets are expected to attract unprecedented demand. However, those who get in quickly will be able to skip the queue. An exclusive pre-sale window will be offered from Monday, 23 September, to those who register before tickets go on sale to the general public.
With the best sailors in the world set to transform the City of Sails into the City of SailGP, league managing director Andrew Thompson said, “After two iterations of the ITM New Zealand Sail Grand Prix, we’re delighted to make our long-awaited debut in Auckland in January. New Zealand fans are among the most passionate and engaged in the world, and we can’t wait for them to experience a weekend of world-class racing and entertainment right in the heart of the nation’s biggest city.”
The ITM New Zealand Sail Grand Prix | Auckland is delivered in partnership with Tātaki Auckland and New Zealand Major Events, alongside Title Partner ITM. Last season’s ITM New Zealand Sail Grand Prix | Christchurch demonstrated the sweeping benefits of the event, amassing a total economic impact of USD $20.7m (NZD $33.3M) in the host region, whilst engaging more than 700 young people through SailGP Inspire, the league’s award-winning community outreach initiative.
Tātaki Auckland Unlimited Head of Major Events, Michelle Hooper backed up those sentiments. “Excited is an understatement. SailGP is not only a fantastic opportunity for the people of Tãmaki Makarau to experience such a unique event, but it’s also a wonderful opportunity to attract visitors and showcase our little slice of the world to a global audience alongside some of the most iconic cities around the world.
