Tickets are now on sale for New York City’s racing event of the summer as SailGP returns for the Mubadala New York Sail Grand Prix, June 22-23.
SailGP is the world’s most exciting race on water, thrilling fans with high speeds, high action and big drama. This June, SailGP fans can kick off the first official weekend of summer, enjoying adrenaline-fueled racing, entertainment [musical acts to be announced], food and beverage and more at the new Governors Island Race Stadium location.
SailGP, which first raced in New York in 2019 with just six teams and five events, has quickly grown to 10 teams and 13 events. The best athletes in the sport, representing the United States, Australia, Canada, Denmark, Germany, Great Britain, France, New Zealand, Spain and Switzerland race turbocharged F50 catamarans at upwards of 60-mph speeds in stadium-style racing close to shore, promising plenty of action for the fans.
The new Governors Island Race Stadium location delivers a spectacular view of the racing set against the backdrop of the world’s most iconic skyline, the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. Waterfront Reserve ticket holders will have a front row seat in the grandstands complemented with giant screens, live race commentary, afternoon entertainment, food and beverage concessions and merchandise stalls. Ferry transport to / from Governors Island is included in the $85 ticket price.
For fans wanting to get even closer to the action, there is a Bring Your Own Boat program (BYOB) where boat owners can purchase a flag to secure a premium viewing position inside the racing exclusion zone. There is also the option of exclusive Tech Base Tours of SailGP’s ‘pit lane garages’ to witness the athletes and cutting-edge F50s up close.
The Mubadala New York Sail Grand Prix promises to be SailGP’s most spectacular North American event to date – a high bar considering the league races in locations around the world like Abu Dhabi, Saint-Tropez, Sydney, and Bermuda. As a multi-year partner of SailGP, Mubadala's long standing relationship with the league now includes the title partner for the newly revamped New York Sail Grand Prix. Both Mubadala and SailGP are dynamic global brands that prioritize technology and innovation working together for a more sustainable future.
Mubadala Deputy Group CEO Homaid Al Shimmari said: “We’re excited to build on our long-term support of SailGP, which includes being a Global Series Partner of the league’s global youth and community program – Inspire – to help drive positive change in the cities where SailGP races. Following the success of the largest Inspire program recently in Abu Dhabi, we look forward to continuing this in New York, as well as showcasing Mubadala’s role as a responsible investor.”
The New York Grand Prix will be the first time the U.S. SailGP Team competes on home waters under new ownership. In November, the American team was purchased by an all-star group of major sports, technology and entertainment leaders, and the team – driven by Taylor Canfield and with Manhattan-based Mike Buckley as team co-owner and CEO – can’t wait for its debut in front of the home crowd.
Buckley said: “It’s going to be incredible to race in the United States for the first time for our new team – I can’t wait to compete in front of the world’s most iconic skyline and show the most passionate city in the world what a Sail Grand Prix is all about.”
