This is the moment a dramatic crash unfolded between France and ROCKWOOL DEN, which ended France’s Grand Final hopes and caused significant damage to their F50.

The incident took place at the final rounding mark in San Francisco’s fourth fleet race. Quentin Delapierre’s France was under pressure to overtake ROCKWOOL DEN to stay in with a chance of stealing Spain’s place in the three-boat Grand Final.

France, which had to keep clear, turned too late and smashed into the side of Nicolai Sehested’s ROCKWOOL DEN to come close to capsizing.

The collision damaged their rudder beyond repair and earned the team a devastating 12 point deduction from its event score and loss of 8 season points.

Despite trying to repair the damage on the water, the French were unable to compete in the fifth and final fleet race, and the season point penalty ultimately ruled them out of making the Grand Final.
