SailGP fans can now go get the inside story on what happened after Australia driver Tom Slingsby used Abu Dhabi’s pre-event press conference to throw down the gauntlet to the next generation.

The new episode of the series reflects on the league’s first Abu Dhabi event, which saw Slingsby challenge new teams to win events and prove their worth after the departure of Jimmy Spithill and Ben Ainslie from the sport.

Speaking about his challenge, Slingsby says: “I don’t see a stand out in the next generation, I really thought Diego Botin was going to be it and at the start of this season he started great but (…) the Spanish team have had some really poor events since then. Erik Heil, Sebastien Schneiter, Quentin Delapierre (…), none of these younger guys are taking it. If any of us older guys do retire, it’s anyone’s game.”

The new episode also unpicks the racing action of Abu Dhabi, which saw Diego Botin’s Spain and Taylor Canfield’s United States go head to head with New Zealand in the three-boat Final. Elsewhere, Nathan Outteridge subbing in for Danish driver Nicolai Sehested is put under the microscope, with Sehested’s team struggling to master the light wind conditions.
