• Partnership will reward performance with impact to clean up the ocean

Sydney, AUSTRALIA - 9 November, 2021 - Australian digital lending and payments provider WLTH, is the latest organisation to proudly launch with the Australia SailGP Team, partnering with the SailGP reigning champions in a multi-year deal.

The partnership demonstrates the scale and reach of the purpose-driven, global racing league. The worldwide exposure generated by the competition is a key attraction alongside WLTH’s aspirations to scale up to overseas markets.

In a ground-breaking approach to partnerships , WLTH will reward the team's performance throughout the season with impact investment in collaboration with the Australia team’s Race For The Future partner, Parley for the Oceans to fund to execute beach and coastline clean ups, removing marine plastic pollution from Australia’s treasured beaches and coastlines, with the level of investment based on the Australia team's results in every race, at every event. The conversion of results into driving real impact to help protect the ocean is not only a first for SailGP but also a unique approach to sports partnerships which places purpose truly at the heart of the sport’s drive to climate action and accelerate change towards a cleaner and more inclusive future for all.

For each of the five fleet races at every SailGP event, WLTH will fund and participate with Parley for the Oceans to conduct 500m2 of beach and ocean cleaning if Australia secures first place. They will then conduct 300m2 if the team places second, 200m2 if third or 100m2 for finishing in any other position. For the final race at each event, Parley for the Oceans will conduct a whopping 1500m2 of beach and ocean cleaning if Australia comes out on top, and 1000m2 or 500m2 for a runners-up or third placed finish. Based on WLTH’s commitment, Australia’s performance at the Spain Sail Grand Prix in Cadiz equated to 2800m2 of ocean and waterways cleaned up by Parley for the Oceans.

WLTH will also support the Australia team in the SailGP Impact League – a sport-first, integrated league designed to make sustainability action essential to the fabric of sport, make athlete activism the norm and in order to help mitigate climate change. Ultimately creating two podiums, one for sport and a second podium for the planet.

Australia SailGP Team CEO and driver Tom Slingsby said: “WLTH are committed to driving impact with the Australian team, and want to help us to achieve our purpose, to protect our oceans for future Australians. We know our oceans play a fundamental role in mitigating climate change and WLTH shares our vision that we need to take action by cleaning up our oceans, and educating the public on why the ocean is our greatest asset. With WLTH, we will be converting our racing and results into driving real change and help protect our oceans - a first for SailGP!”

WLTH co-founder Drew Haupt said: “Growing up on the beaches of Australia, we've been huge fans of sailing our entire lives, and its platform perfectly aligns with our mission and community at WLTH. They have set a new standard in the world of sports by putting purpose and impact at the core of their DNA. As a business, sustainability is centered in everything we offer to our customers which is why we've partnered with Parley for the Oceans as our strategic impact partner. The fact that SailGP and the Australia team are also working with Parley for the Oceans as its Impact Partner, we will be able to amplify positive environmental impact in Australia and around the world through our collective collaboration.”

The announcement comes as Sydney prepares to host the next leg of SailGP Season 2, with racing taking place on the iconic Sydney Harbour on Friday December 17 and Saturday December 18, 2021.

As one of the first major events to return to New South Wales and Australia since the onset of the global pandemic, the partnership is yet another exciting announcement off the back of a successful season for Slingsby’s, winning the Spain Sail Grand Prix in spectacular fashion last month. The Australia team heads into its home event at the top of the SailGP Season 2 leaderboard.
