With the start of SailGP Season 2 on the horizon, Denmark SailGP Team presented by ROCKWOOL has announced the appointment of former round the world ocean racer Peter Wibroe as Team Manager.
Wibroe has been a key part of Denmark SailGP Team since its inception in December 2019, leading the Danish campaign’s data and performance analysis, and even stepping in as a reserve sailor at Sydney SailGP in February 2020.
Having competed in The Ocean Race and the World Match Racing Tour in a varied professional racing career, Wibroe brings a wealth of experience to the first ever Danish entry into SailGP – the sport’s pinnacle league. Wibroe combines a top-level sailing background with a professional and academic career that has seen him gain a PhD in nanomedicine from the University of Copenhagen.
“I’m delighted to take on the role of team manager as we prepare for a packed schedule of action on the water in 2021,” said Wibroe.
“My mission is to help make the boat go faster. Whether that’s through project management, data and performance analysis, or just supporting the athletes on and off the water, I’m really excited to be part of Denmark SailGP Team as we fly the Danish flag on the global stage.”
Wibroe raced alongside Denmark SailGP Team presented by ROCKWOOL helmsman Nicolai Sehested in the 2014-15 edition of The Ocean Race, and has also joined him onboard for several World Match Racing Tour campaigns.
Sehested said: “I’ve known Peter for a long time – we’ve worked together on a range of successful projects and campaigns over the last decade – and I’m really happy that he’s joining us in this new role. He has great experience and will bring a lot of valuable insight and skills to the team.
“We can’t wait to get back on the water, and 2021 promises to be a really exciting year for Danish sailing, including the first ever Denmark SailGP event in Aarhus this August, where fans will get a chance to see these supercharged boats close up.”
The ROCKWOOL Denmark SailGP | Aarhus – takes place on 20-21 August, 2021, and the team will be announcing a range of other activities taking place across Denmark this year in due course.
