Gill and Great Britain SailGP Team set sail together

Leading clothing brand joins British team in their quest for victory in SailGP’s inaugural season

LONDON – 8 February 2019 – Gill and the Great Britain SailGP Team today unveiled an exciting partnership that announces the iconic marine clothing brand as the team’s Official Technical Clothing Partner. Gill will supply its latest range of clothing to the British entry in SailGP – a global championship setting out to redefine sailing featuring six national teams going head-to-head in the fastest racing boats in the world.

Designed to withstand the elements, the Gill clothing will help the team perform to the best of their ability on and around the water in a range of conditions and venues, starting with the Sydney SailGP on February 15-16.

Through the partnership, the Great Britain SailGP Team will become integral in product development for Gill, ensuring the clothing remains at the cutting edge of function and form, tested by the best in the world. Gill will also be designing a bespoke line of official Great Britain SailGP Team merchandise offered for sale during the year.

The partnership comes as Gill enters an ambitious new phase in the history of the company; as announced in December 2018, the brand has undertaken a complete refresh of the marketing and consumer experience, online and instore. The company has also recently released its most technically advanced range of clothing ever, which includes the cutting edge and stylish Race Fusion jacket that will be worn by the Great Britain SailGP Team. The team will also feature in product materials and creative assets for the launch of future collections.

Chris Draper, Great Britain SailGP Team CEO and wing trimmer, said: “We are incredibly proud to have formed a partnership with such an established and exciting British clothing brand as Gill. Sailing F50s in SailGP is not really like any other sailing I have done before and it will push our athleticism and performance barriers higher than ever before. Gill have worked closely with the team from the outset to identify the technical and onshore clothing that we need straight away ahead of our first event and we have some pioneering new product development ideas already in the pipeline. Gill will also be able to create and deliver an inspiring range of team merchandise that we are sure our fans are going to love!”

Jamie Tunnicliffe, Gill CEO, said: “Gill has a trusted heritage and an exciting vision for the future, and following our brand refresh in December we became aware that we need a world class platform to enable us to showcase our new products and direction on the global stage. We believe SailGP has a huge amount of potential and is set to really deliver something special in the sailing world. As a proud British brand ourselves, we are delighted to have the opportunity to be supporting the British team with our latest products that look great, and perform, and we look forward to all we can achieve together.”
