SailGP returns to San Francisco for the first U.S. event of Season 2, May 2-3, 2020
There is no better way to celebrate the first United States event of Season 2 than witnessing the world’s fastest sail racing in one of the premier venues across the globe.
The iconic San Francisco Bay will play host to SailGP’s fleet as fans flock to the Marina neighborhood to watch the high-adrenaline racing play out in front of the majestic Golden Gate Bridge. A grandstand will feature on the water’s edge on Marina Yacht Club Peninsula, allowing fans to feel the spray as the F50s fly across the finish line at what are expected to be the fastest speeds to-date.
San Francisco SailGP is the next opportunity for Rome Kirby and the U.S. team to impress in front of a home crowd as they look to win their first event title in the world’s only on-water grand prix.
The 2019 event featured sellout crowds as more than 22,000 spectators saw the U.S. debut of SailGP. Tickets for the 2020 event will go on sale in January.
“We were able to see American flags waving and hear the cheers of the shore-packed crowds at both U.S.
stops last year,” said Kirby. “It was like nothing I had experienced before, and propelled us to our first victory.
For those who haven’t seen SailGP yet, it’s not at all what you might expect – it is the new pinnacle of our sport
and I very much look forward to sharing it with home crowds in San Francisco and New York next year.”
