What is an accumulator bet?

Depending on where in the world you live, you may see this bet type called a parlay bet, or a multi bet, but rest assured that the principle is exactly the same, so we’ll stick with using accumulator or acca for the purposes of this guide.
What qualifies as an acca bet?
An accumulator bet technically combines two or more selections, but what constitutes an accumulator may be defined differently depending on two things: the country where you live, and your betting site. In the UK for example, a bet with two selections is called a Double, and for three selections, it’s referred to as a Treble, and it’s only when you add a fourth leg that it’s described as accumulator.
Terms and conditions matter
Terminology aside, when it comes to placing a bet that qualifies for an acca bonus, the T&Cs are dictated by the betting site, and they take precedence. One of those will be a minimum number of legs, so make sure you observe the requirements, or you’ll miss out.
Potential returns for an accumulator bet
When you place an accumulator bet, you will see the combined odds for your bet displayed on the betslip. The more selections you add, the greater the odds, but the lower the probability.
The odds increase because your individual picks are multiplied by one another. However, all of your selections must win for you to receive a payout, and the probability of that reduces with every selection you add.

- Acca boosts: Acca boosts are one of the betting site promos it’s easy to miss out on. In some cases it’s because the betting brand only drops them when you place a qualifying accumulator bet, but in others, it’s because the betting site hasn’t added them to its promotions page. Of course, the other reason is because the site simply doesn’t offer that type of betting bonus in the first place. But other than that, if an acca boost is available, it will have a percentage attached, which may vary according to the number of selections you make. If your accumulator bet is a winner, you’ll receive that percentage amount in addition to your standard return.
- Acca insurance: If you opt in for acca insurance, you will still receive a payout, albeit a reduced amount, if one leg of your accumulator bet loses. We do also need to point out that not every betting site offers this type of promotion. There is also no way for us to explain how any individual betting brand calculates your potential reduced payout in the event that one of your selections lets you down. However, it can make the difference between a total loss, and a partial return
- Early cashout: Again, whether early payouts are available or not does depend on the site you are using. We explained how an accumulator bet works earlier in this guide. However, there are some other bet types where you make multiple selections, but they are not accumulator bets and would not qualify for an acca bonus.

We felt it was worth mentioning that Bet Builder bets are less likely to be eligible for an accumulator bonus because they work differently to a straightforward accumulator, and may only be available for certain sports. Where an accumulator typically includes multiple selections related to the specific outcome of different events, a Bet Builder also includes prop-style options which are not affected by the outcome.
🔄 System bets
System bets are also described as partial, or full cover bets, and almost always excluded from an accumulator bonus. Although they involve making a specific number of picks, the way they work is different. An example would be a Lucky 15 (UK) aka Yankee with singles. For this type of bet, you make four selections, which are combined into 15 separate bets: 4 singles, 6 doubles, 4 trebles, and 1 fourfold accumulator. Only one of your four selections needs to win to receive a payout.
