Following successful stints with China in Season 1 and Spain in Season 2, Phil Robertson moves to the new Canada SailGP Team as Driver for Season 3.
Robertson led the Chinese to the bronze medal in SailGP's inaugural campaign, and is aiming for a strong finish with the Spanish in Season 2.
Sailing is Robertson’s life and has been since the age of 10, when he started racing competitively. At 16, he preferred the challenge of sailing in a team and joined the prestigious RNZYS Youth Training Programme.
Robertson eventually joined Waka Racing, a world-class match racing team, where he spent six years, culminating with a world championship gold medal in 2016.
He then went on to skipper the highly successful CHINAone NINGBO team. From mid 2016, they featured in every final of the World Match Racing Tour, winning five of them and placing second in three. During this period the team picked up two M32 world championship wins in 2017 and 2018. He has also been a regular feature on the Extreme Sailing Series, leading team Oman Air to third and second place finishes in 2017 and 2018 seasons, respectively.
Outside of sailing, Robertson loves running and practicing endurance sports, such as triathlon and Ironman.
