At 8, James Wierzbowski started sailing under his father’s guidance and soon progressed through the ranks. The highlight of his youth career was competing in the 2013 Youth America's Cup.
Wierzbowski has competed in the Extreme Sailing Series for five seasons, a natural progression for someone who grew up catamaran sailing off the beach of his hometown in Australia. He raced in the 49er class at the 2016 Olympic Games and won the World Match Racing Tour championship the same year.
Wierzbowski is an adrenaline junkie and enjoys fast sports, whether that’s sailing, surfing, snowboarding or kite surfing. He also loves the fitness side of the sport, turning to CrossFit to keep him in shape.
“Being a bit of a speed freak, the opportunity to sail the fastest racing boat there is out there really excites me. I have always said, ‘if you’re going somewhere, you might as well go there fast’ and this couldn’t be truer of the F50.”
