Wang Jue is an accomplished rugby player who converted to sailing and recently returned to the sport he loves after an eight-year hiatus.
Jue first got a taste for the sport when selected by the Shanghai provincial sailing team during high school. After years of hard training, he got the call-up to join the China Team for the 32nd America’s Cup and later competed in the Extreme Sailing Series.
To earn his place on the team, Jue took part in a number of tests, looking at body composition, strength and grinding and, following a successful trial, was recruited to the China SailGP Team.
Jue currently lives in Valencia where he is training in the Olympic Finn class and spends a lot of his spare time in the gym. He is capable of bench pressing one and a half times his own body-weight.
“Sailing is my lifelong dream and I’m very happy to get back to the sport I love. I am very eager to be part of the China SailGP Team and looking forward to competing under the China flag.”
