Rasmus Køstner’s passion for sailing was ignited at an early age, influenced by his family. He has taken part in the biggest competitions in the world over his career to date and now adds SailGP to his impressive resume. His participation on the Denmark SailGP Team will bring invaluable experience as the team makes its debut in 2020.
Following several youth national championship titles in Denmark, he joined forces with Jes Gram-Hansen and started to climb to the top of the ISAF World Match Racing rankings, eventually earning his place on the World Match Race Tour and RC44 circuit.
Having gained critical match racing experience, Køstner joined the Italian challenger – Team Mascalzone Latino Capitalia – for the 32nd America’s Cup in Valencia, Spain in 2007. The following year, he joined Ericsson Racing Team as tactician for the in-port races during the grueling 2008-09 Volvo Ocean Race.
He shifted once again as the general focus in professional sailing moved toward high-performance multihull sailing, joining his former teammate Hansen to found the SAP Extreme Sailing Team that finished second in the 2015 Extreme Sailing Series, before taking the title in 2017.
