McMillan grew up on the Isle of Wight where he started sailing with his father. Clearly sailing is in his blood as both of his parents love the sea and shared their passion with Leigh, who is today considered one of the top multihull sailors in the UK.
From starting out in the Optimist aged eight, McMillan quickly progressed to catamarans, competing at the Youth World Championships and making Olympic appearances in the multihull Tornado class for Team GB in 2004 and 2008.
He won the Extreme Sailing Series in 2012, 2013 and again in 2015, going on to win the Bullitt GC32 Racing Tour in foiling multihulls later that same year. McMillan competed in both the 35th and 36th America’s Cup as flight controller for the British America’s Cup Team before joining the France SailGP Team for Season 2.
When he is not racing, McMillan is normally found on the water with his wife and young family.
