It was at college in Concarneau, Brittany, that Olivier Herlédant first got into sailing. With a physique mirroring an American football player, he was soon noticed on the world stage and was called up the World Match Racing Tour, finishing runner up in 2010.
Since then, Herlédant has competed in two America’s Cup campaigns, most recently alongside his teammates, sailing with the French team at the 35th America’s Cup.
Herlédant has an increased interest in the F50, having completed a PhD in fluid dynamics and an engineering degree in naval hydrodynamics. He has also installed a grinder at home to help hone his skills.
Herlédant is married to Armelle and has two children. When he’s not spending time with his family, he enjoys fishing and gardening.
“SailGP will generate some fantastic jousting for both the athletes and spectators. Whilst we might not have sailed the boat much, we know each other well and hope this experience and knowledge will help us excel. I think the first half of the season we will mostly be trying to tame the F50 but in the latter part of the season, I think we will get ourselves up into a good position.”
