Sena Takano joins the Japan SailGP Team for Season 2 alongside Wakako Kajimoto. Each athlete will participate in three events during different stages of the season, with Takano scheduled to appear in Denmark, France and Spain. One of the two will then be selected for the final events of the season.
Osaka-born Takano started sailing at the age of 14, spending her first few years in the 420 and 470 classes.
A former Junior World Champion, Takano participated at Rio 2016 and, at 18 years old, was the youngest Japanese sailor to compete in the Olympics. Partnered with Keiko Miyagawa, Sena finished in 20th place in the 49erFX event.
She is currently campaigning for the 2020 Olympic Games in the same class, along with Anna Yamazaki.
Away from sailing, Takano studies Sport and Health at Kansai University and loves exploring nature.
