Yugo Yoshida was an important member of the Japan SailGP Team in Season 1, serving as grinder and training up the younger Japanese talent. Heading into the new season, he’ll be shifting his focus to help his wife Ai Kondon win Japan a gold medal in the Olympic 470 class when their home country hosts the Games this summer.
The team looks forward to continuing to work with him once the Olympics are over.
He started sailing as a high school club activity, but soon developed a thirst for racing.
Exhibiting talent as a 470 crew member, Yoshida quickly developed aspirations to compete in the Olympic Games. After going through a tough domestic qualifying, his dreams came true as he represented Japan at the 2012 Olympic Games in the class, finishing sixth overall.
Along with his partner Ryunosuke Harada, he won a gold medal at the 2010 Asian Games.
Yoshida met his wife sailing, when they both competed for Japan at the Olympic Games. He now supports his wife’s Olympic ambitions, coaching her towards Tokyo 2020.
When he’s not sailing or coaching, Yoshida loves fishing and spending time with his young son.
