SailGP
Richard Mason is a highly experienced professional sailor who has competed in various catamaran and high-performance classes including the America’s Cup (AC36), M32 Series, GC32 Racing Tour and the Extreme Sailing Series. He has raced with Emirates Great Britain, ROCKWOOL Denmark and Switzerland in SailGP, and will be part of the Mubadala Brazil crew in the 2025 Season.

Youth
Mason grew up around sailing as his father competed in the America’s Cup, various world championship events among other high-profile competitions, laying the foundation for the pathway he would pursue in his career. Inspired by his father, Mason started sailing from the age of four in a variety of boats that got faster as he got older.

Career
He progressed from one hull to two, competing in the M32 Series and eventually the Extreme Sailing Series, which he won in 2017 as a member of the SAP Extreme Sailing Team, which was skippered by Denmark SailGP athlete Rasmus Køstner. One of the hardest things that Mason has done in his career is compete in the gruelling, single-handed Solitaire du Figaro race, racing the length of the French coast and spending 13 days at sea on his own. He was also part of the British Challenger for the 36th America’s Cup competing in Auckland in 2021.

Personal
Mason enjoys cycling alongside surfing and wing foiling.
