Freitas' passion for sailing dates back to his childhood, influenced by his stepfather and his days at the Cascais Yacht Club (Portugal). Since the age of 8, when he took his first sailing course, his dedication to this sport has been undeniable. He has participated in the 2017-2018 Volvo Ocean Race and competed in other international level competitions such as the Dragon Gold Cup and the Bacardi Invitational Regatta in 2021.
His special connection with the Spanish SailGP team, having been an instructor to figures like Diego Botin or Florian Trittel, highlights his impact on contributing to the team's success. In the F50 Victoria, Bernardo plays the role of a grinder.
