Luis Bugallo serves as wing trimmer for the Spain SailGP Team in Season 2, reuniting with several of his teammates from the 2017 Youth America’s Cup to form the youngest crew in the global championship.
He is trained in a variety of boats and his diverse experience makes him a valuable member of the squad in its debut campaign.
Bugallo grew up on the coast of northwest Spain, sailing an Optimist at his local yacht club.
He first made a name for himself after winning the 2013 420 youth national championship, following it up with the national championship that same year.
Along with several of his Spanish teammates, he competed in the 2017 Youth America’s Cup, which took place in Bermuda, and on the GC32 foiling catamaran circuit.
In 2018, he skippered a J70 at the world and European championships, winning the Corinthian division.
Born in 1995, Bugallo speaks Spanish, Portuguese and English. He has studied for an engineering degree.
