Luis Bugallo joins the Spain SailGP Team as wing trimmer in Season 2, reuniting with several of his teammates from the 2017 Youth America’s Cup to form the youngest crew in the global championship.
He’s trained in a variety of boats and his diverse experience will make him a valuable member of the squad in its debut campaign.
Bugallo grew up on the coast of northwest Spain, sailing an Optimist at his local yacht club in Vigo where he laid the foundation for his sailing career, while also studying for an engineering degree. Throughout his youth, he trained in a variety of boats and his diverse experience makes him a valuable member of the Spain SailGP Team in its debut campaign.
He first made a name for himself after winning the 2013 420 youth national championship, following it up with the national championship that same year.
Along with several of his Spanish teammates, he competed in the 2017 Youth America’s Cup which took place in Bermuda, and competed on the GC32 foiling catamaran circuit.
In 2018, he skippered a J70 at the World and European Championships, winning the Corinthian division.
