Having established himself as one of the best American sailors of his generation, Rome Kirby brings to his position arguably unrivaled experience, being the only flight controller in the league who has also helmed the F50.

Youth
A native of Newport, RI, professional sailing is in his blood, literally; his father, Jerry, competed in six America’s Cups and three editions of the Volvo Ocean Race. Kirby first appeared on the professional scene with a third-place finish in the 2011-12 Volvo Ocean Race competing with Puma Ocean Racing.

Career
His career then took off, literally, when he became the youngest member of ORACLE TEAM USA, winning the 34th America’s Cup in 2013. Serving as an off-side trimmer, Kirby helped pull off a stunning comeback by winning eight consecutive races. He ultimately competed seven years with the team through their defense of the America’s Cup in Bermuda in 2017.
An aggressive competitor, Kirby also competes in the prestigious Moth class, placing third at the 2018 world championships as well as actively campaigns in the M32 class.

Personal
When he’s not sailing, Kirby is a passionate surfer and ice hockey player, and also enjoys playing golf and snowboarding.
