Tom Johnson grew up sailing in Perth, Australia competing on the Olympic class 49er and foiling Moth circuits before getting the call up to take part in the 2014-15 round the world Ocean Race with Team Vestas Wind.
Johnson is well versed in the mechanics of foiling high-speed technical boats having competed as wing trimmer for ORACLE TEAM USA in the 2017 America’s Cup before returning back to offshore racing for his second lap of the globe in the 2017-18 Volvo Ocean Race with Vestas 11th Hour Racing.
“They’re fast boats. It’s like sailing a Moth but with six guys. The designers have really turbocharged the boat from what we were sailing before and the speeds we’re seeing is the fastest I’ve ever raced.”
